South Africa's Eskom declares power "emergency"

South African power utility Eskom declared an emergency on Thursday (yesterday) saying the system remained severely constrained, a day after it temporary implemented rolling blackouts across the country to ease pressure on the grid.

Eskom said in a statement that any extra load or faults in the power system were likely to result in more rolling blackouts.
Eskom runs Africa's most advanced power grid in South Africa and has been battling for years to make it more stable and efficient.
This news doesn't augur well with investors who consider stable power in South Africa as attractive proposition for investment.
In the last few months Eskom has stepped up efforts of bringing onstream CCGT gas powered plants with national gas feedstock from neighbouring Mozambique.
